Our Girl Scout Troop went camping recently at Camp Kuchina. The girls entered a dessert contest and made a cherry cobbler in the cast iron skillet. We usually make this in a dutch oven but we had a fire ban that day.
Our very easy recipe is as follows:
In a cast iron dutch oven, pour canned cherries to make a layer 1 inch thick. Then pour white cake mix to a depth of 1/2 inch. Place several pats of butter on top. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Place dutch oven over hot coals and place hot coals on the lid of the dutch oven. Bake approximately 30 minutes. When the top is golden, it is done.
